Cafe Paci, Darlinghurst

It seems like the long degustation only concept is slowly dying but here comes Cafe Paci from the ashes of Cafe Pacifico bravely with a degustation only concept. It's convenient that the former tenants of Cafe Pacifico fit nicely with head chef Pasi Petanen's name, so much so that they used the former's sign and simply dimmed the 'fico' part. Pasi Petanen's got credential's to boot, being an ex-chef of three torque Marque with the owner Mark Best being quoted to say he's "the best thing to come out of Finland since Nokia rubber boots". High credentials indeed.

Steel Bar and Grill, CBD

Because of my non-existent cooking skills, all my fine dining and eating out does have its costs but in spite of that, I remain intensely prideful of the way I save. A whopping 50 percent off the entire menu is where it's at for the conveniently located Steel Bar and Grill down Wynyard. Heads up to SimonFoodFavourties for revealing this deal on his facebook site. Thanks a lot.

Apollo, Kings Cross

It was my mum's birthday the other day and given the choice between ramen or Greek, she chose Greek. Seriously, I swear I didn't say anything. So I took her down the notorious Darlinghurst Street down Kings Cross to a 'little' restaurant called Apollo. That place is real dodge buuuutt that's where all the hip restaurants are at.

Bite Sized Delights, Circular Quay

Quick little 'bite sized' post today which I felt was long overdue. Look forward to a proper one tomorrow keen readers. The few pictures I had for the night I stole off L reluctantly so thank you. Really old post but it had to come up some day.

Grounds of Alexandria, Alexandria

Grounds of Alexandria has been out for a long time. It's a cafe place where one can rock up and have to wait an hour. That popular.

Black Star Pastry, Newtown

T'was Black Star Pastry's truffle weekend the other Saturday and Sunday and on top of that I ordered a croquembouche from them for Y's 21st that very Saturday. Double the fun! Little sad that there's only 2 items this year compared to the 8 last year but it was a fairly busy day. I've been there heaps of times before and they're very reliable while it comes to pulling off big pastry jobs so they were the obvious choice when it came to making a croquembouche cause I sure as hell ain't making it.

Lorraine's Patisserie, CBD

Lorraine's. Again. This time for a free pie promo to promote Merivale's newest product: Bert's pie and Bert's sausage roll. A quick 'on-the-way' to uni detour brings me along there on a dreadful winters day. Really packed as you'd imagine so if you're going to take advantage of it today, thoroughly recommend you get there by 11:45.

Pizza Festival Closing Event, Alexandria

There are some who eat fast food pizzas exclusively. And then there are the purists who scoff at the idea of mass produced 6+ ingredient pizzas. Me? I fall in the between. The gourmand in me wants pizza where you can taste each individual ingredient. Paper thin wood fire crust, all beautifully smoky and blistered. A deep and rich tomato pasata. Premium mozarella. But then there's the other part of me who'll just finish 2 and a half + whole large Dominoes on a good night without a second thought. I mean, seriously, who doesn't love a good large 5 dollar deep pan with the lot on a long boozy Tuesday night.

No, we aren't the most amazing gastronomes or chefs. Heck, half our team doesn't even know how to cook... well. However, what we really love is eating. And lots of it. We enjoy that occasional freebie, filling up that craving for a midnight snack and finding a 20 in our pockets that we thought we never had, and using that as an excuse to go out eating. As we battle the ongoing war on uni student poverty, we'll bring you the most swoon worthy recounts of our latest foodie adventures.
