Ippudo, Ultimo

Chippendale's starting to become hot property these days. An abandoned ground close to two universities, Central station and smack back in the middle of the city. With the new shopping centre opposite UTS, it's as inviting as any, featuring a garden wall towering up and a nice clean new space as well as many shops. I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.

Following their noodle driven rise for world domination, Ippudo have capitalised on this by opening up another store here away from their ever popular Pitt St mall. It's as loud and inviting as ever, and the service may have pick up a notch from their other store. Walk right in and you're greeted with their signature welcoming chorus of  いらっしゃいませ (irasshaimase).

Akamaru Special 25
Ramen's the name of the game here as you won't much else here besides a list of entrees. But you can't go wrong with ramen either. Not as heavy as Gumshara's and not thin either. Noodles are cooked to your liking be that soft, medium or hard and the sent swimming in a deliciously rich and creamy pork broth.  Their Akamaru Shinaji comes with fillets of round berkshire pork belly, wood ear mushrooms, and shallots with a pungent garlic oil and miso combo. For the most pricey option you get an additional side of flavoured egg, more tender pork, roasted seaweed, flavoured bambo shoots and spring onions.

Tori Shoyu Special 23
Those seeking something lighter might want to seek something along the lines of their Tori Shoyu Ramen featuring chicken and bonito broth and chicken pieces.

Goma Q 7
Their marinated cucumber pretty good to provide a bit of relief from all the ramen-ness. Fresh and cold yet sweet and flavourful full of sesame and soy.

Prices are definitely a lot more dearer than your average ramen joint (around 2 times the price) but for the amount of accompaniments and quality you're getting, it's pretty bang for buck. For those who don't mind a bit of noise and have a budget slightly more than a uni student's you'll want to give this a visit. Watch this space guys, it's about to get hot (cause of the weather and.. the ramen... okay I'll find my way out).

Update: -  Ippudo is opening on 2nd of October 2014

Dear Neil,

The Akamaru Shinaji is good though I was amused to see so many Asian bloggers in the same restaurant at the same time.

I'm hoping they do pork buns here too?!

No, we aren't the most amazing gastronomes or chefs. Heck, half our team doesn't even know how to cook... well. However, what we really love is eating. And lots of it. We enjoy that occasional freebie, filling up that craving for a midnight snack and finding a 20 in our pockets that we thought we never had, and using that as an excuse to go out eating. As we battle the ongoing war on uni student poverty, we'll bring you the most swoon worthy recounts of our latest foodie adventures.
