Lorraine's Patisserie, CBD

Lorraine's. Again. This time for a free pie promo to promote Merivale's newest product: Bert's pie and Bert's sausage roll. A quick 'on-the-way' to uni detour brings me along there on a dreadful winters day. Really packed as you'd imagine so if you're going to take advantage of it today, thoroughly recommend you get there by 11:45.

Bert's pie 7.9
Wasn't spectacular to be honest. The wagyu beef was beautiful and you get it in chucks so you know it's not some miscellaneous parts mixed in there but there wasn't enough of it. Must have been an inconsistent batch because there was more of this red wine infused bolognaise like gravy than anything else. Pastry was definitely the highlight, all puffed and gorgeous with it's lid risen up nicely like a tall top hat.

Bert's pork and fennel sausage roll 4.5
Sausage was similarly wasn't hit-one-out-of-the-ballpark amazing but it was nice and meaty with a good hit of fennel seeds that was just a match made in heaven.

Bread and butter pudding 5.5
Couldn't help myself. I had to get the bread and putting pudding there. On the other hand, bread and pudding was plainly put: flipping awesome. Sausy, eggy, sweet and comforting, the booze infused soft and tart apples gave way to layers of creamy and utterly divine custard soaked bread. When compared to the Black Star Pastry one (probably my favourite item there), it's hard to pick one over the other. Good thing I don't have to.

Prices are admittedly premium but so is the flavour. As always, sweets reign supreme at Lorraine's. I promise this will be the last Lorraine's post. I'm not obsessed ......... Anyway, definitely look forward to a proper post later this week!

i managed to try both the pie and sausage roll as they were giving them out for free. They tasted great as they were free, but im not sure how i'd feel about it after paying for it. they're good, but not great.

No, we aren't the most amazing gastronomes or chefs. Heck, half our team doesn't even know how to cook... well. However, what we really love is eating. And lots of it. We enjoy that occasional freebie, filling up that craving for a midnight snack and finding a 20 in our pockets that we thought we never had, and using that as an excuse to go out eating. As we battle the ongoing war on uni student poverty, we'll bring you the most swoon worthy recounts of our latest foodie adventures.
